Toast Magazine: Japanese Stab Binding

Cotton khadi pages from Bound: 15 Beautiful Bookbinding Projects by Rachel Hazell

It’s a delight to feature in Toast Magazine this month. They have curated a broad range of articles on artists, recipes, books, travel and maker’s stories – I’ve been loving the thoughtful variety of ideas presented.

Toast are sharing an excerpt from my book Bound: 15 Beautiful Bookbinding Projects, using Susan Bell’s glorious photographs.

The Stab Binding is an elegant way to gather single sheets together and the clean linear stitch gives a strong graphic look. Using thick cotton rag paper pages makes for a very satisfying tactile object that you can fill with line drawings and inky words.

Enjoy creating your own book using the instructions on the Toast site – please share it on Instagram using #TOASTtimetomake and tag me @paperhazell
