WHAT FORMAT IS THE CLASS IN?
The class is taught using a filmed tutorials and written instructions with step-by-step photographs. Everything is made available in a password-protected private classroom. Each day there’s a new project , interspersed with extra inspiration and ideas.
HOW DO I ACCESS THE COURSE?
When you click the link to Sign Up you’ll be taken to our Online Academy and asked to input your name and email details to become registered as a student. Once you have paid the course fee you will be provided with confirmation and the link to access the course.
I’VE ALREADY REGISTERED ON THE TRAVELLING BOOKBINDER WEBSITE – DO I NEED TO REGISTER AGAIN?
Yes. To host our online courses we use a special software platform called Thinkific, designed to give you the best possible experience. When you sign up for the course you will be asked to register with Thinkific to create your account. You can use this for any future online courses too.
I’VE NEVER TAKEN AN ONLINE CLASS BEFORE. HOW DOES IT WORK? DO I NEED TO BE AT MY COMPUTER AT A CERTAIN TIME?
No. The beauty of an online course is that you can check in whenever you like, and don’t need to be online at a specific time as the content will be available 24/7, so it doesn’t matter what time zone you’re in. You can log on every day if you choose, or set aside some time once or twice a week to work through it. There will also be a private discussion space where you can connect with others and share images of your work. You will have lifetime access to the course so you have plenty of time to go back through everything at your own pace.
CAN I ASK RACHEL QUESTIONS DURING THE COURSE?
Yes, you can! You just post any questions on the Discussion Forum and Rachel will answer.
DO I NEED ANY PRIOR ART EXPERIENCE TO PARTICIPATE?
No, this is a course designed for pure creative pleasure and exploration so you can start right where you are. It doesn’t matter whether you are a complete beginner or a professional artist – you’ll find inspiration here!
HOW MUCH TIME WILL THE CLASS TAKE?
In total the course takes about twenty hours, spread over 14 sessions, but you can dip in and out as you like. If you plan to follow the course on a day-by-day basis then you will probably need ninety minutes daily for the exercises, then an additional two to three hours to watch the video tutorial and make the main project each week. You don’t need to worry about timing though as you will have lifetime access. MapLove is a concentrated experience, leaving you with a wealth of techniques,ideas and plans for many more bookart projects.
I’M A BOOKBINDER – WILL I LEARN SOMETHING NEW?
Ha ha yes! You’ll get more confident about filling your beautiful books with unique content.
I’VE NEVER MADE A BOOK BEFORE – IS THIS A PROBLEM?
Ha ha no! What joy is ahead of you. If you can fold a piece of paper in half, and sew on a button, you’ll be able to make a book. The ingenious and simple structures in MapLove are designed to be the vessels for your content. You’ll learn useful craft techniques to use as creatively as you like.
