ABOUT

RACHEL HAZELL

‘I can not imagine books or bookery of any sort having a finer or more devoted ambassador than you’ – Robin Melnick

As teacher, author and traveller, books, words and the power of imagination have always been central to Rachel’s life. The day she was taught how to make her first book, she knew she’d be a bookbinder for the rest of her life.

Home is the capital city of Edinburgh and the small Hebridean island of Iona. Workshops around the world have included ships in Antarctica, bespoke one-to-one courses, corporate sessions and book festivals.

Rachel read English Literature at Edinburgh University, trained in Bookbinding at the London College of Printing and completed Masters degrees in Book Art at Camberwell College of Art, and Printmaking at Edinburgh College of Art.

Her focus is teaching, whilst showing at select exhibitions and undertaking special commissions. Rachel believes that everyone has a book inside them, and loves sharing the satisfying experience of creating unique artwork, in the most inspiring places.

Rachel’s book Bound: 15 Beautiful Bookbinding Projects is published by Kyle.
